Inside Amunra Barbershop on Malvern Road — exposed brick wall, leather chesterfield, vintage barber chairs and warm Edison-bulb lighting

Tell Sam what you don't like about your last haircut. He'll take it from there.

Walk in or book ahead on Malvern Road, Glen Iris — Sam and the team take their time with every cut, and nobody's rushing you out the door for the next booking.

Fades, beard work, and the occasional rescue job

Most people come in for a fade — skin, zero, or anything in between — finished off with a clean beard trim to match. Amunra also takes boys under 14 in for their first proper haircuts, with the patience that takes, and sees a steady run of people whose last cut went sideways somewhere else. Hand Sam a photo, or just describe the mess you're currently wearing, and he'll work out what needs to happen and get on with it.

The barber people come back to after someone else got it wrong

One reviewer called Amunra "the best barber in Melbourne for skin fades & beards," and the rest of the reviews back it up in their own words — 54 separate people singled out how friendly the place is, and another 13 zeroed in on the same thing: attention to detail. Sam's the name that comes up again and again, but the rest of the team get their own mentions too — "Ali & Hadi are artists, neat and quick work," says one review, and another simply calls George "the best in the biz." Whoever's in the chair when you walk in, it's the same room, the same brick wall, the same care.

"Exactly the way I had imagined without having to say much. Great customer service."

A 1920s shopfront that still looks like one

The exposed brick on the back wall is original — nobody's painted over it or dressed it up for the photos. The chesterfield customers wait on has had a few years of actual sitting on it. The whiskey barrels and the steamer trunk aren't props; they're furniture, doing furniture's job. Even the guitars and skateboards on the wall belong to the people who work here.
